After 1960-61 with only one Major League Baseball team in the Big Apple, a few men from Major League Baseball decided to create an expansion team in New York, the New York Metropolitans, today known as the Mets. The new team took one of the colors from each former New York teams, the Giants and the Dodgers, and so the interlocking NY was blue and orange. The Metropolitans got off to an abysmal start to their time as a professional team, but in 1969, a mere 7 years from their terrible start, the "Amazin'" Mets won the World Series over Baltimore in 5 games. Summing up, the New York Mets have been in existence since 1962.
