There are two reasons you block in volleyball. The first answer is obvious, to stop the ball from coming on your side of the net. The other reason is to funnel attacks to spots on the court, where your defense should be waiting.

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?

A blocker blocks all intended hits of the opposite team. when your playing front row, you are a blocker / hitter as well. blocking isn't as easy as it looks though. you have to have jumping skills and also you get the ball smacked in you face alot!

a middle blocker is usually the tallest player on the floor, and their position is in the front row, in the middle. They obviously hit, and when the other team hits, they block. They don't usually play back row besides serving, and they stand on the ten-foot line in 6-1 for serve-recieve.

When a person spikes the volleyball hard from the other team (or side), a person from the team opposite of the one who just spiked will block the ball and keep it off their side.
