Rugby union is a game for two teams of 15 players to play. There are many rules to the game so i suggest you look them up if your interested. the main ones are:
Hold the balls in your hands,
Pass it backwards
During the game you may kick the ball, there are rules conserning this and i can't be bothered to explain.
Tackling, to perform an effective tackle you must wrap your arms around the opposition's legs, just above knee height, and hold on until they fall over. tackling above the hips has it's uses but is more difficult and less effective. You can tackle anyone above shoulder height.
The team
the team consists of 8 forwards and 7 backs.
the forwards are aranged with the two biggest on either side of another reasonably big person. these are called props (either side) and a hooker in the middle (its not what you think)
Then there are two taller than average and well built people behind them these are called the second row.
Then the back row consists of two flankers and one number 8.
the backs are 1 scrum half, 1 fly half, 1 inside centre, 1 outside centre, 2 wings, and 1 full back.
The game it's self is mainly people from either side trying to score trys (5 points) drop goals and penelties (3 points) and conversions (taken after a try is scored 2 points).
This is done by the team with the ball running at the the team without the ball with a number of rucks (where each team compets for the ball on the floor) and mauls (each team trys to get the ball of the other when its off the ground).
im afraid that i cannot answer this question for rugby legue as i don't play it, and don't know much about it.
The game is still like normal rugby but the physical contact is removed and the concept is to take the tag (a cloth strip) normally placed in the top of the shorts from the ball carrier - the ball carrier must evade the tagger and pass the ball to score as in the normal game if a tag is pulled twice from the carrier the ball is passed to the tagger team for more detail look in the related link below
Both teams are in their respective defensive halves. The referee blows the whistle, and the team who is kicking off dropkicks the ball from the 50 metre line to the opposing half; the ball must travel at least 10 metres downfield, without the receiving team touching it, without going out on the full. If the ball does go out thus or does not go ten metres, the receving team has the options of either having the ball rekicked or a scrum with feed at the point where the ball was kicked.
The object of the game is to score more points than the opposition. Points are accumulated through scoring a try (five points), a penalty (three points), a drop goal (three points) or conversion (two points). Details of how these points are awarded can be found in in the scoring guide. The attacking team strives to move forward by kicking, passing or running with the ball in hand, but when the ball is being passed, it may not travel forward. If it does then a scrum is awarded to the opposition
The same as Rugby (both union and league) from any other country. The rules of both games do not differ from country to country.
The game is basically attacking side must keep position of the ball, passing it between team mates (passing back or in line with the player passing the ball). The game is to reach the opposing teams goal line and ground the ball in the "in goal area". Following this the scoring side may attempt to kick the ball over a cross bar and between 2 upright posts that form the goals.
