Lighter fluid is a cheap fix for anything sticky. You can also use an orange based cleaner, such as "Goo Gone". Lighter fluid works best though.

How do you apply pine tar to a baseball helmet?

Pine tar is applied to the bat for a better grip, not the helmet. The reason why you see pine tar on some player's helmets is because it is transfered from the bat onto the players hands and then the helmet when they take off or adjust the helmet.

Is there an advantage of using pine tar to the barrel of a bat?

Pine tar is a sticky substance. Pro baseball players frequently apply pine tar to the handle of their bats because the bats are made entirely of wood, which is very slippery. Pine tar makes it possible to get a better grip on the bat. Whether applying pine tar to the barrel of a bat gives the hitter an advantage is debatable. However, some people think that applying pine tar to the barrel of a bat changes its interaction with the ball in flight. A stickier bat is more likely to make solid contact, and thus result in more hits.

Why do baseball players put pine tar on their helmets?

Its not that they put pine tar on their helmets on purpose. Its from handling the bat with their gloves, then both adjusting/taking off their helmet. So it just transfers from bat to helmet via the glove. Sure they could clean their helmets after a game, but I'm sure its a superstitious thing with many baseball players to not clean the helmet. I'm sure you've seen tons of ball players with extremely dirty helmets... Also... ball players ''adjust'' the amount of pine tar on their gloves for preference by touching their helmet to take some of it off.

How do you put pine tar on bat and make it thick?

The best way is to spray it on with a spray jar. Put the pine star substance in a spraying container and spray it on, the more you spray, the thicker it will be. You can also get a, what people like to call, a Pine Rag, which is a rag that is covered in pine tar, then wiped on the bat. Remember! The more pine tar you add, the thicker it will be!

How do you use pine tar spray and how do you get it off of the bat and your hands and should you use it with or without batting gloves or if you use it i with gloves is there any point in it?

You would be better off to spray a small amount on your batting gloves. Try to keep it off your skin because it can be very difficult to remove. Maybe you could get a rosin bag or something like that to use in place of the pine tar. Pine tar is very sticky and can help you to get a tight grip of the bat, but the drawback is that it can be extremely difficult to remove. But, whatever works best for you is what you should use.According to the website http://www.tipking.co.uk/tip/4491.html, rubbing bacon grease, mayonnaise, lard, or witch hazel on the pine tar will help to take it off. Also, check out the answer to this question on WikiAnswers:How_do_you_get_pine_sap_off_your_hands~Additional: According to the Rawlings bat care guide, isopropyl alcohol is the most effective for removing pine tar from bats (and best for the bat too).
