Most of the time it is handed down brother to brother or friend to friend. However, there are situations when an applicant is hired. If you are interested in becoming a ballboy/ballgirl for a professional team you should contact the team trainer and or equipment manager. The team equipment manager is generally the individual who supervises the team attendants. Write them a letter and explain why you are interested in the position. Demonstrate your work ethic, responsibility, and your willingness to do what is asked of you. Also, you may want to include a copy of your GPA. Most teams want individuals who excel in academics. Why? Because it demonstrates achievement, loyalty, respect, dependability, etc.

How have to go to the head office of the team you want to work for and fill-out a form or you can apply On-line if the have a website or you can fax them a resume. They will call you for an interview if they like whats in your resume.

I was a ball boy for 10 years, the organization changes the application and interview process every few years it seems. Best bet would be to contact the organization to see how they want the kids to apply each year.
