How do they choose where the Super Bowl is going to be?

Cities put together a marketing package and make a presentation to a committee of owners of the NFL as to why their city would be the best to host the Super Bowl. Then all of the owners meet and discuss the presentations and select the city that they believe would be best. The NFL selects its Super Bowl city four years in advance of the game.

The city has to host an NFL team. Their stadium must have at least 70,000 seats. The average temperature in Jan must be at least 50 degrees, or the stadium must be domed. Tthere must be at least 24,500 hotel rooms within an hour of the stadium.

The NFL Owners hold a meeting every year where cities that want to host a Super Bowl make a pitch to the league. The "Pitch" is evaluated by the league where they consider things like the age of the stadium, the facilities of the city (number of hotel rooms etc.), infrastructure (roads, public transportation etc.) and the climate of the area. The owners then vote, usually well in advance of the Super Bowl - usually 3-5 years ahead of time - and determine what cities will get a Super Bowl.
