Seattle first had a MLB team called the Pilots, but shortly after their inception (1967) commissioner Selig moved the team to Milwaukee (1970) and the city sued. Confident that they would get a team soon enough the city built a new stadium, "The Kingdome (1972-1976)." With a brand new stadium, decent size market, and a lack of cities west of the Mississippi they were a natural pick for an expansion team in 1976.
