It was pretty much understood that Bill Parcells wanted to bring in his own running back when he took over the Cowboys after the 2002 season. Smith, who had played with the Cowboys from 1990 to 2002, finished his career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2003 and 2004.

The official story is that on March 29, 1994, Dallas head coach jimmy Johnson and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mutually agreed to dissolve their football relationship after five seasons and back-to-back Super Bowl titles. Otherwise, you'll just have to choose whether you believe Johnson quit or was forced out.
