The IRB rules state that

The field of play does not exceed 100 metres in length and 70 metres in width. Each in-goal does not exceed 22 metres in length and 70 metres in width.

(2) The length and breadth of the playing area are to be as near as possible to the dimensions indicated. All the areas are rectangular.

(3) The distance from the goal line to the dead ball line should be not less than 10 metres where practicable.

IRB Regulations state a pitch shall NOT exceed 100 meters in length from goal line to goal line and not exceed 70 meters from touch line to touch line. The in goal areas shall not exceed 22 meters in depth.

If you exclude the in goal area the area of the pitch is 7000 sq meters

if you include the maximum length allowed (including the in goal areas) then the area is 10080 sq meters
