Players that apply for the All-Star game can decide whether they want to participate in the Home run Derby or not. If only 7/less batters want to participate, the derby would be cancelled. P.S: Most players think it's a waste of their energy and don't want to participate anymore

You have to be in a charity like the Boys & Girls Club of America or something like that. Or you know someone within the MLB or host team. Also, you could be related to someone that works for a big sponsor like Chevrolet, Nike, Gatorade, or Budweiser.

In 2011, captains were selected in each league. The captains then chose 3 other players in their league to participate.

They ask the leaders in HRs that year and past participants, many decline, so after that they ask pretty much anyone who is willing.

The captans pick the contestants. I just don't know how they pick the captains.
