Rules for volleyball change every year, but some of the major changes include the score that the game is played to changed. Also, way back when if you didn't serve and recived the ball or got a sideout then you would not get a point and just get the serve.

Most recent rule changes for Junior Olympic level (travel, club teams) are new violations of net play and center line contact. It is now legal to be in the net as long as you do not use it as a crutch to balance when landing from a jump. If you hit the tape (top) of the net it is considered to be a violation. The new rule for center line violation is it is only a violation if the entire body or body part is over the line. As long as a part of the body has contact with the line it is legal.
You can hit the net on a serve or hit and have it go over and it is still valid. You can kick the ball if it hits your feet.
