The Pro Bowl is played the week after the Superbowl.

Selections for the Pro Bowl are made towards the end of the regular season. I guess they assumed people would have better things to worry about as the playoffs approachs.

3 reasons:

  1. See if it works better (makes more money)
  2. Winter Olympics
  3. NBA All-Stars

Because people wouldn't tune in to watch the Pro Bowl if it was played after the Super Bowl. The idea is that the Super Bowl ends the professional football season and most people would not watch another game especially if it doesn't count. Many of the athletes involved in the Pro Bowl would not have practiced in a month or so waiting for the Super Bowl to be played, or not very well anyway. In any case as with most sports, it's all about the money!

No, in 2010 the NFL wanted to experiment by trying it before the Super Bowl.
