One of the main changes, the offside rule, was introduced to prevent strikers from 'goal hanging'. Before the rule was introduced, players could basically stand by the oppositions goal and wait for a long pass, making it easier to score. The offside rule states that a player cannot participate in play if he is behind the second last opposition defender (which may include the opposition goal keeper) and ahead of the ball at the moment the ball is passed. If he does, an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposition team. This rule means that if the defenders are, for example, by the half way line, an opposing striker can't goal hang because, when he receives a pass, he will be in an offside position.

Soccer consists of many complicated rules. One of the rules is that a soccer game lasts 90 minutes with a fifteen minute break after half of the game. Another one of the rules is that you get five players on the bench. You get to take three of your players out of the field and put in three players from the bench. These are called substitutions. You can make one substitution at a time or all three. Your team can have only 11 people on the field at a time. Your team also has to have a captain. Usually the captain is chosen based on experience. Also, another one of the rules is an offside. An offside is when someone from the opposing team gets the ball behind the last defender. There are also cards. If the referee shows you a yellow card it is a warning. When you get two yellow cards in one game you get a red card. A red card means that you have to leave the game and not get to play the next one. The referee can also show you a red card without showing you two yellow cards. Different players have different ways of celebrating a goal. A goal is when the ball goes into the net past the goalie. If you score a goal it helps your teams win the game. There are four different positions in soccer, goalie, defender, midfielder and, forward. The goalie has to keep the ball from going in the net. Goalies are the only players that can use their hands. Defenders help support the goalie and clear the ball out into the midfield. Midfielders run up and down the field supporting both defenders and scoring like forwards. Forwards, also have a tough job. They have to score goals. Soccer also has fouls. Fouls are when you push, shove, or slide tackle someone from the opposing team. If the foul is bad enough you can get a card. This is how injuries happen. If you make a foul outside of the 18 yard box the opposing team gets a free kick. A free kick is a chance for the opposing team to score by kicking the ball at the net with a wall of players blocking the way of the ball. If you make a foul inside the 18 yard box it is called a penalty kick. A penalty kick is where someone kicks the ball one-on-one against the goalie.

  • There wasn't a three-point line, so each basket was worth 2 points, no matter where the ball was shot
  • There was no shot clock until 1954, so players could hold on to the ball for as long as they wanted
  • There was no restricted area in the paint
  • There was no 3 seconds in the key, so players could stay there as long as they want

Not at all, which is quite controversial, as tennis-like improvements have been suggested and requested over the past few decades with FIFA, who insist on draconic rules and the prepotence of the referees.

Does the apostrophe go before or after the s in girls soccer team I played on the girls soccer team for all four years of high school?

It depends on what style you are writing in. Typical AP format dictates that a soccer team of females is known as Girls' Soccer. I could be wrong on this one, but I think MLA format rules contrarily. In MLA, I do believe it is Girl's Soccer. Good luck.
