Brian Clough was a renowned football manager carved in the mold of the cantankerous maverick. His genius was regarded as being derived from an unshakable self-belief that he was apparently effortlessly able to instill into his players through sheer force of personality. His colorful managerial career reached its apotheosis in his stewardship of Nottingham Forest having managed various English clubs including Brighton, Hove and Albion, and Leeds United. Commonly regarded as the best English manager that was never give a chance to manage the England international team (to the detriment of the England team), he had a reputation for bloody-mindedness, a short temper and a tactical nous unsurpassed by his footballing peers.
