Not much, but it can if it is too heavy. For instance, I used a 29 ounce bat the beginning of high school, then started using a 29.5 towards the end of high school. That made little difference, but suited my growth. However if a player was using a 30 ounce and it was already heavy for him, then adding another 0.5 would not be wise.
