A lot of them study other subjects while playing. Players have their careers cut short by injury and other problems. Young players coming in to the sport usually have to maintain and complete their schooling while they are training and playing. A player's career could end at any time so they need to have education and qualifications to be able to pursue another career when they finish playing. Some can stay in the sport by going into coaching teams or being involved in some other way, but most can't do that as there are only a limited amount of jobs in that. Even if they do stay in the sport in some way, they will still need training and qualifications to do so.
