If you mean helmets, as in American football helmets, the answer is no. This is because they would simply be too heavy! American footballers can wear them because the game is stop/start and one player doesnt play a full game because they have attacking/defending teams. If you mean a scrum-cap, then yes Rugby players probably should, if they play in the scrum, it will stop their ears from becoming deformed, but many players outside of the scrum wear them too.

No. It wasn't until Clint Benedict of the Montreal Maroons wore the first mask in 1930 that they began production of masks. Clint wore his leather mask for five games and found that the nosepiece was obstructing his vision. Manufactures began making better masks that didn't interfere with the goalie's ability to see. However, some goalies chose not to wear them. It wasn't until much later that helmets were invented and goalies were required to wear them.
Depends on where they are skating. On competitions it's usually required to be allowed to participate. Skate parks may also have a rule that helmets must be worn.
Yes for the younger, less experienced skaters. If you're in a high level(freestyle) then a helmet isn't necessary.
Helmets weren't worn until George Owen of the Boston Bruins wore a leather helmet. Players weren't required to wear helmets until 1970.
Obviously for protection... falling onto ice or getting hit in the head with a frozen puck can do major damage to you.
yes they do for Ice Hockey and only for the goalie for field hockey and i don't know about ball hockey
