Leon Hess was the Jets owner from 1964 until his death in 1999. He bought the team with several partners (Phil Iselin and David "Sonny" Werblin) and eventually bought each one until he became the sole owner in 1984. Upon his death, his estate sold the team to Robert Wood Johnson IV in 2000.
