I don't believe George Atkinson hit harder than Jack Tatum, but he could deliver his share of intimidating and by today's standards "Cheap shots" E. G. breaking Russ Francis nose in the 1975 playoffs against New England in Oakland, it was a vicious hit. What made George Atkinson so fearful in my opinion is that he was part of a tandem of hard hitting defensive backs, imagine going down the middle and wondering who you will be hit by first, Willie Brown, Jack Tatum or George. Neither choice would instill much pleasure into any tight end, running back or receiver, even by today's standards.

Well, I don't know because Dick was a mean linebacker and he would deliver the hit and Jack Tatum was a mean strong safety too but the answer would be yes.
