Chuck Fairbanks was the coach of the New England Patriots from 1973 - 1978. During this period, the Patriots went 46-40.
At the end of the 1978 season, Fairbanks was suspended by Billy Sullivan for a single game. The suspension was caused by Fairbanks agreeing in principal to become the University of Colorado's head coach in 1979. Fairbanks was replaced by co-head coaches Ron Erhart and Hank Bullock. Fairbanks left the Patriots organization after 1978, and Erhart became the Patriots head coach.
