Butch Stearns was one of the Captains of the Stonehill Cheiftains during a very successful season where Stonehill came in second in the divsion after losing a close game against Bentley in November of 1981. Butch was a starting linebacker for the Cheiftains during this period. In his tenure as Stonehill captain Butch was known for providing guidance and leadership to both new and veteran players alike. Butch earned his broadcasting prowess during the Stonehill College Basketball games following the end of the football season and was admired for his enthusiastic support of his college teams. This made Butch a true leader both on and off the grid-iron. As a young freshman player during that very sucessful 1981 season Butch made an indelible impression on me and others.
