no he did not... He said that wearing socks in his skates made his feet cold. He was one of a number of NHL players who didn't wear socks in their skates. They DID wear a foot strap sock, that went under the instep, and was connected to the sock that went over their shin protectors and knee pads. Orr also had the palms of his gloves cut out, so he could get a better grip on his stick handle.
He used bees wax on his stick blade to make it sticky, and he rubbed his skates with whale oil, to make them more flexible. Remember that that time, skates were all leather, as were the gloves. No plastic at that time, in sports equipment.
