Owning a paintball gun is not usually a violation of federal probabtion, unless due to the original offense the terms and conditions of probation exclude it-by this I could mean someone committed a robbery with a paintball gun. However, this does not mean having a paintball gun cannot be construed as intent to commit a crime ie. if you threaten someone with a weapon. Again it comes down to intent-you can have a knife in your hand eating your dinner but use that same knife to threaten someone is entirely different.

you are better off looking at your local laws and review the rules of your probation. By strick letter of the law : if something is not listed in your court-ordered probation as being forbiden, then it is legal for you to have/do.
