It's not entirely clear what you mean. He played football in high school and was offered a football scholarship to Southern Mississippi. When he graduated from there, he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, and then traded to Green Bay.

I suppose you could say "by being good", since at each step of the game, the people who selected him for a scholarship/the draft/a trade did so because of his previous performance.
