Competitive Cheer is when a Cheerleading squad goes to competitions against other squads. Football and Basketball games are used as practice for competitions. Cheerleading competitions can be large or small. High school teams as well as All-Star teams compete in these competitions under many different levels based on team size, tumbling abillity, varsity, junior varsity, all-star etc.
usually for supporting your school or a sports teamAlso, there's All Star cheerleading, in which you learn a 2 and a half minute routine of jumps, stunts, and tumbling. You then preform your routine at one of the many competitions your team can sign up for.
In most cheer squads the amount of chearleaders range from 12-25. This allows stunts (with flyers, base supports and spotters) to take place safely.
yes they do i am on a high school cheerleading squad and we do stunts for football games all the time!
Typically, tumbling is preferred in high school cheerleading. However, a back walkover is more than many people can do and will likely increase your chances of making the squad. High School squads will often train their cheerleaders during practice to do the other stunts required if you initially make the team.

Cheerleaders do stunts because they want to show the judges something awesome. There are always fun and new stunts that have never been invented.
The different kinds of stunts in gymnastics are individual stunts, dual stunts and group stunts. Individual stunts are performed by a single person, dual stunts are performed by partners and group stunts are performed by 3 or more persons.

When cheerleading first started, it was an all male sport. The sole purpose of cheerleaders (then call yell leaders) was to direct fans in the school cheer. Soon after in the 20's women were added in the sport with the addition of pom pons, and very basic stunts(people kneeling on eachother) and tumbling(cartwheels). Until the 80's, the main purpose of cheerleading was to direct crowds and cheer on sports teams. Some more talented schools went to competitions. It wasn't until the first All-Star team emerged that the focus of some squad turned solely competitive. All-Star squads do NOT support athletic events, their only purpose is to compete. This is when more advanced and complicate stunts and tumbling were added because athletes had the time and the certified coaches (not merely teachers who were sponsors) to teach higher skills
