In Greek theatres and amphitheatres.
Amphitheatres?
Ancient Greek amphitheatres were semicircular: a performance area with a semicircular area for the audience in front of it. Ancient Roman amphitheatres were circular or oval in shape with the audience surrounding the central performance area. The viewing area in most amphitheatres was tiered, natural or man-made, so that those at the back had a relatively clear view of the performance area.

The importance was that Romans needed entertainment, and amphitheatres were a place of entertainment. In modern times, we have stage theatres or cinemas.
In Greek theatre the actors were all amateurs and non professional also they were all men. There isn't much talk of acting styles so far. But from what I can gather they used choral work rather than dramatic because of the amphitheatres being so big they had to make sure everyone could at least hear if they could seen. (Amphitheatres normally had about 15,000 people in at a time)
