What is the difference between private and state run correctional facilities?
Private run prisons are for-profit facilities which have a
contract with a governmental agency. A state run correctional
facility is completely owned and operated by the government. In
either case, the government is paying for the prisoners to be
housed. The main difference is in who owns and operates the
facility. There are those who are against private facilities, since
there is a chance of less stringent monitoring by the state.
