Many D1-AA schools transition from DII; so their stadiums are not as large as many D1 schools. The Average D1-AA school would seat around 8,000 to 10,000. Yet many stadiums like Montana's Washington-Grizzly Stadium can seat over 20,000.
It can really depend on the size of the school, the history of the school, and just about anything else. For example The University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school, plays in historic Franklin Field which can hold well over 50,000 or 60,000 but the stadium is rarely, if ever, full for football games. A school like Colgate, which does not have scholarships or a city any where near it, has a much smaller stadium that will probably hold 10,000 fairly well. Schools like App. State that are traditional power houses can fill a stadium with 30,000 people for every game due in large part to the larger number of students and the large alumni following.
