Feller, who died in 2010 at the age of 92, always denied being a racist, but his outspoken nature probably contributed to the tag. For instance, the flame-throwing pitcher was once asked by a reporter if he believed that Jackie Robinson would make it in the major leagues. His reply was no. "He's tied up in the shoulders and can't hit an inside pitch to save his neck," Feller said. "If he were a white man, I doubt if they would even consider him big league material, except perhaps as a bat boy."

Of course, Robinson went on to have a stellar career with the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1947 to 1956. In 1962, he was one of two greats that year elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. The other was Bob Feller.
