Since the Major Leagues did not have any Black players in the 1900s, coaches did not have any Black players to react toward.
I do not think there were coaches who were black, assistant ones yes.

The US black population is around 13-14%. 18% of the NFL's head coaches are black. Stupid, race baiting question.

Art Shell coaches the Oakland Raiders, Tony Dungee coaches the Indianapolis Colts and there have been others in the past as well. It's a sign of the times that some current or past Black head coaches have been omitted in this answer because it is no longer an issue whether a head coach is Black, White, Yellow or Red. -----As of the start of the 2007 season, current African American head coaches are Marvin Lewis-Cincinnati, Mike Tomlin-Pittsburgh, Romeo Crennel-Cleveland, Tony Dungy-Indianapolis, Herm Edwards-Kansas City, Lovie Smith-Chicago.
