The fastest is Hector Hogan who won a bronze medal at the 1956 Games in Melbourne in the 100 meter dash and was the co-world record holder after running a 10.2 second 100 in 1954.

In 2003 Patrick Johnson, with a time of 9.93 seconds, achieved in Mito, Japan, on 5 May 2003. With that time he became the first person not of West African ancestry to break the 10-second barrier.

The mile run was not competed at the 1952 Games in Helsinki. The distance run was 1500 meters. Australia has two participants, Don MacMillan and John Landy. MacMillan finished 9th and Landy did not qualify for the finals.
