Marquis M. Converse was the original founder of Converse in the late 30's before becomming bankrupt. Now there is more than one factory and they are not only maufactured in America but around the world. Who knows who owns it now!
Converse are actually made from 3 different materials so it depends which material your converse are. Canvas don't, suede do and leather do.

Canvas is the most common material for Converse, but they are also made out of suede and rubber. I'm sure there are other materials they are made out of, but I'm not sure what they are exactly.
