The inaugural World Twenty20 was played in South Africa in 2007 with India defeating Pakistan in the final.

The 20-20 cricket world cup started at first in 2007 and India won the inaugural WC with a very young team. (Its also referred as the T20 World Cup)

This inaugural World Cup was played in South Africa and held from 11-24 September 2007.

This event is held every two years...

Before this as well this format was played in domestic circuit in Australia and England. And, some international T20 matches were played...But, this was the first official ICC World level event!!

The first Twenty20 International took place on the 17th of February 2005 when Australia defeated New Zealand by 44 runs at Eden Park in Auckland.

The first official Twenty20 cricket match was held between Durham and Nottinghamshire on June 13, 2003. The Twenty20 Cup competition that this formed a part of was won on July 19 by Surrey.
