Running is not a game, most professional sports are games (to list a few): hockey, Baseball, Basketball, soccer, and football. So its easy to see how sports become confused to be only athletic games.
Some well defined running sport are Track and Marathons which are both in the Olympics. There is also cross country running, road racing or just jogging in your neighborhood. All are sports its just that some are more formal sports than the others.
