The Olympic committee has not yet chosen it as an Olympic sport. There would have to be judges that could define what was the best in the sport. Since snow boarding is now part of the Olympics, it is highly likely we will see skateboarding as part of the summer Olympics soon.

The only event at the very first (classical) Olympic games was the Stadion foot race. A Stadion was about 200m, and women were not allowed to compete, so it would be fair to say that the Men's 200m is the oldest ongoing Olympic event, and therefore Athletics the oldest ongoing Olympic Sport.
If your daughter is taking gymnastics classes, the same shcool of where she is attending should be able to tell here how to prepare for the olympic if she is qualify to participating for the olympic.
Gymnastics is a sport that both men and women do. This is a very tough sport where gymnasts train hard usually to become an olympic champion or they use this sport to get in shape. If you are a young person this would be a great sport for you.
