a bail is one of two small pieces of wood that sit on top of the stumps when a game of cricket is played. the bails have to be disloged from their position on top of the stumps for a batsman to be out - bowled, stumped or run-out.

Bails are most commonly found in the sport of Cricket. A bail is one of the two small sticks placed on top of three larger sticks. These bails are used to determine is a batter is "out" as they can be knocked off by a good pitch or a touched by a fielder who is holding the ball.
