As both a cross country skier and cross country runner, my three stages of a warm-up usually go like this: 1. Easy, level 1 jog / ski / ski walk/ ski bound - 10-15 min. 2. Stretching / Dynamic stretching - 10-15 min. 3. Strides (A's, B's, Butkicks, etc.), Accellerations (running - over the course of 100 m. accellerate to top speed, then de-cellerate to minimum speed again, skiing- 15 to 20 second sprints - faster than race pace). After this, I usually head to the start line, take off my warm-ups, and get ready to race. This warm up is approved by most coaches.
1. do a jog on spot/skipping for 1 minute

3. Do your sport!!! :)
There is normally only two parts of a warm up, this is called a pulse raiser. It starts off by doing a light jog, and then doing some stretches, you do these twice so that your body can be prepared for the sport or activity you are doing.
In sport they are
the 3 components of a warm up are 1) Pulse rate check 2) Stretching 3) Game/sport related activity. These all physically and mentally prepare you for your game/sport.

A warmup is a warmup and done prior to a workout. It can be considered movement and exercise but it isn't the workout.
Warmup exercises aren't 100 percent necessary, but they help your body loosen up, and can give you more positive benefits to your workout. It would be preferable to warmup before working out.
