As both a cross country skier and cross country runner, my three stages of a warm-up usually go like this: 1. Easy, level 1 jog / ski / ski walk/ ski bound - 10-15 min. 2. Stretching / Dynamic stretching - 10-15 min. 3. Strides (A's, B's, Butkicks, etc.), Accellerations (running - over the course of 100 m. accellerate to top speed, then de-cellerate to minimum speed again, skiing- 15 to 20 second sprints - faster than race pace). After this, I usually head to the start line, take off my warm-ups, and get ready to race. This warm up is approved by most coaches.
