It depends alot on the sport but generally they must:

  • Make a drawsheet/drawboard of matches
  • Ensure that there are an approprite number of umpires so each match has one
  • That the people participating are the same age/skill group
  • Make sure it is a fair competition which is correctly scored and written down

The Competition Director (CD) provides oversight for a number of games; usually more than three each. They also are able to create ladder templates for new games as they are released. Competition Directors typically approve promotion of admins's to manager status. Competition Directors will often handle serious ladder, league and tournament breaks, and often communicate with site developers on a variety of site issues. Competition Directors may also intervene in disputes that involve a Competition Manager or his/her team, and may hear appeals of a Manager's ruling. Typically a Director's ruling is final for game specific issues unless there is a vote involve.
