There is no single, correct answer.

There are some basic skills required, such as hand-eye coordination, the ability to move your body freely (particularly hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, waits, hips, and knees), and a comparitively low level of athletic ability.

Even professional golfers on the PGA TOUR constantly work on their skills, and no person can ever claim to have "mastered" the game of Golf.

Tactics vary depending on the course, the golfer's prefence, and the level of skill or ability of the golfer. Typically, hitting each shot to set up the next shot as the easiest shot towards the hole is the main tactic-not necessarily hitting the ball as far as is possible. Finess is a much a part of golf as strength.

The best suggestion is to seek out a local golf club with a PGA Professional on staff, and speak to him about the game of golf.
