The first Australian Olympics were held in the summer of 1956 at Melbourne (Games of the XVI Olympiad).

Due to quarantine regulations though, the equestrian events were not held in Melbourne. They were held in Stockholm, Sweden five months prior to the Melbourne Olympics.
