The United States boycotted the 1980 Olympics in Moscow in protest over Soviet military action in Afghanistan. The Russians and their friends Cuba and East Germany , as well as Libya and Iran, boycotted the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles . I am sure that there have been other boycotts by smaller nations.
