So the thicker the bat, i assume, the greater the mass.

The greater the mass, the greater the force, assuming you have the strength to use the bat.

the more grains on the face of the bat, means that the bat is softer and will have more 'ping', but will not last as long as a bat with less grains which will not 'ping' as much
