Every male figure skater has done this before! I skated when I was younger and the boys in our association periodically did it for fun. It usually gave them more points for creativity. We did one routine with 12 girls and one boy who wore the same outfit as the girls. Most boys liked doing this anyways.
1 rule of figure skating is you cannot do any flips what so ever.
Tara Lipinski. She is still the youngest woman ever to have won the Olympic gold medal in figure skating, at age fifteen.
The special figures contest was won by Russian Nikolai Panin, who gave his country its first ever Olympic gold medal. He remains the event's sole winner, as it was subsequently dropped from the program. Ice dance joined as a medal sport in 1976, after appearing as a demonstration event at Grenoble 1968.

No, never! I believe the universe puts things in front of you for a reason. When most would have been derailed by an injury I looked it as an opportunity to explore other things that I was interested in because my life up until that point had been figure skating 24/7. Figure skating has a short shelf life and I didn't want to risk being a mediocre figure skater in my 20's and end up trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, so I took the early "out" that the universe put in front of me.
No. Through the 2010 Games in Vancouver, South Africa has been represented by athletes in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure skating, short track speed skating, and skeleton without winning a medal.
No, they learn power skating and balancing. they learn to skate in all directions and manners with strong emphasis on balance, stability and speed. Figure skating implies grace and artistic form, both of which are not necessary for hockey players and aren't taught to any hockey player I've ever seen Generally, hockey players do not learn figure skating. But that is not strictly true. Some professional hockey coaches have hired figure skaters to teach the weaker skaters to cut figures on the ice both clockwise and counterclockwise. The purpose of cutting these figures is to bring about improved balance (most players are weaker at turning in one direction than the other) thereby producing quicker acceleration and reducing falls.
Because it is so fun!
