Why did people make skateboards?

The skateboard was invented because people in California wanted something to do when the waves were flat. Skateboarding was invented by surfers they invented it because they wanted to find a way to surf on land. They took crates and boards or any thing they could and put roller blade wheels on them. Over time skateboarders started to make trucks and boards but they were not that good. Over time skateboarding just progressed and so did the equipment. If you have not seen Lords Of Dogtown i would recomend it. It does a good job of telling why they wanted to skateboard.
They invented the skateboard to use as transportation so they did not have to walk or ride a car. Skateboards were also used just to have fun.

If looked a lot like Snowboarding and skiing and Surfing and it seemed to be an enjoyable thing to do. As the activity became more known more people tried it and enjoyed it.
