Put your back foot so that the toe is on the tip of the board with the heel hanging off. Then put your front foot a little farther up than the middle of the board so that half of your foot is on the board and the toe-side is hanging off. When you first start doing heelflips you don't need to pop too hard, so lightly pop the tail than slide the side of the foot across the board so that it flicks off the side of the concave. jump and spread your legs apart so that the board can rotate without hitting your legs. Once you see the grip tape come right-side up again bring your feet back in and try to land on the bolts.
Amateur skaters can learn various skateboard tricks such as a heelflip on a variety of sites on the web. These include video sites such as YouTube as well as Skateboard City and Yahoo.

lots of problems are that the board lands behind you. That just means that you need to jump back a little and commit to the trick.

A heelflip is when you flip the board in mid-air. Like a kickflip but just with your heel and flipping it the other way.
