There are no exact answers to this, based solely on the text of The Bible. However, it can be inferred, from other portions of scripture, that women would have been there. Women were followers of Jesus, just as the men, and Jesus taught the women in the same manner as the men. He used them as examples in his parables and teachings. He never sends away a woman claiming anything was for "men only". Since both men and women were his followers, disciples (Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus is in a classic "student" posture indicating she was being taught by Jesus as a disciple) and members of the new faith, it is logical that they would have been there as well. Non-canonical writings clearly present this as the case, while the standard NT focuses largely on the 12 male disciples, even though many more than that are indicated in the Gospels and elsewhere (in Acts ) a woman is clearly labeled as a "disciple."

You're probably thinking of "glossolalia", though it's not really synonymous with Pentecost. Glossolalia is basically speaking in tongues or an unknown language, which is what they did on the Day of Pentecost -- and many do today. Another word for it is xenoglossia.
Pentecost was the birth of the church. Also, Jesus used Pentecost to give Believers the Holy Spirit.
Many Christians including Catholics celebrate the Easter liturgical season for 50 days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost.
On the day of Pentecost, there were many followers present who spoke many different languages. In a miracle, all at once all those present understand all the other languages, in their own tongues.
