Ballet is slow and fancy but modern music is now up beat and anything is dancing.
Modern ballet focuses on natural movement and traditional ballet has more stricter rules. For example, if a traditional ballet dancer is just standing on stage, their legs have to be turned out and in first position. But if it were a modern ballet dancer, their legs would not be turned out and they would be in parallel position.
There is a spectrum of forms of ballet which are continuous based on choreography, but the categories recognized are: classical neo-classical contemporary modern-ballet
from ballet, contemporary evolved, to be a good contemporary dancer u need to be ballet trained, modern jazz also developed from ballet.
Ballet is actually very important for contemporary technique because contemporary is a mix of ballet and modern. You need the technique of ballet and the free movement of modern. Most contemporary dancers have a lot of training in ballet. Ballet also helps with strengthening and building the right muscles needed for contemporary as well as the basic movements such as turning.
George Balanchine
Ballet is classic! Its a beautiful dance that is timeless, ballet is a type of dance that has basic proper moves but those moves can be used in a more modern way. Ballet styles change with the period.
It depends on your favorite type of dance. If you like more modern ballet, you would go with the English ballet. If you enjoy classical ballet, you would probably vote Russian. Personally, I like both.
