A Ballet "spin" or "whirl" (as dancers call it) is called a pirouette. A pirouette can be done in either direction: outward ("en dehors") or inward ("en dedans").
It can also be performed on the ball of the foot or "en pointe." To perfect a pirouette, you have to have proper body alignment and you must spot. Spotting means to find a visual focus on the wall, and keep your eyes on that one spot while whirling (or spinning) around.
