If they are relatively new, it may just be because they havent been broken in properly yet, so try bending them and kneading the ends to soften the fabric. Also, wearing them around the house can help to mould them to the shape of your feet just like with Pointe shoes. Sometimes shoes can hurt a lot at first, but once they are softened they'll usually be okay.

If they still hurt, it may be best to look to into getting a new pair, as wearing shoes that don't fit right can be very bad for your feet. Even if they were professionally fitted mistakes are often made. (I had a pair of pointe shoes once that the fitter took two hours selecting and they still ended up hurting a lot and I had to change them.) The fitter may be able to give you a refund if you complain enough!

If you're still concerned, speak with your dance teacher and s/he will give you the best advice from actually looking at the shoes.

Hope this helps!

What was health like in Shakespeare's time?

Shakespeare had the misfortune of living at a time when London was tormented by the plague. In addition, medicine hadn't progressed all that much since the medieval times. While they were becoming more aware of how the body worked, with the dawn of the Enlightenment just a little bit ahead, they still believed in the humoural model of how the body worked. That meant that if something were wrong with you, they thought it was an excess or deficiency of a certain bodily fluid such as phlegm, blood or bile (there was black or yellow bile). They inherited this idea of physiology from the Greeks and Romans who came up with it hundreds of years before, so you can imagine how effective it was. They had no concept of germs or micro-organisms so infection was always a risk and so simple ailments, like an ingrown toenail, were dangerous. In addition, blood-letting was a common cure for a whole variety of illnesses (including love-sickness, which was a recognized disease). Therefore, if you found yourself hopelessly in love, you'd go to the doctor and let out some blood (love-sickness was caused by too much blood you see). Since proper cleaning of equipment was very unlikely, infection was common and often fatal. Love-sickness, therefore, could very literally kill you! In short, their health was not good. Life expectancy did not extend much past fifty. Most people lived their lives in pain and discomfort, which probably had something to do with why they thought everything to do with the body and worldly existence was linked to evil and damnation.

I am a young dancer. I have had my pointe shoes for about 3 or 4 years. I wear Capezio Arias size 6 and a half XXX and I have narrow feet with a high arch. I need to find the right shoes?

Hi, I would like to give some further advice. I spent years trying to find the right pointe shoe and I now have plenty of knowledge. It does depend on your foot, but generally, Capezios aren't well made. I wore the Arias for one class, and I immediately realized they were completely lopsided. In other words, the platform wasn't straight, but, instead, in a total diagonal. Very odd. I thought they were defective, but every pair I have had, there seems to be another problem. For your foot, I would recommend Russian Pointes based on the information you provided. They have many different styles to choose from for narrow feet. I would also recommend to get a flexible shank because they are great for high arches. They provide flexibility to show off your arches, but they won't break easily. I believe they provide flexible soft, flexible medium, and flexible hard. If you could message me at Tedroxie0222 to give me some more information so I could recommend further that would be great. I need to know how strong your foot is, the length of your toes, if your toes are tapered or straight, your street shoe size, and if you need a low, medium, or high crown. Russian Pointes have so many options and can fit many feet. I wear them and I must say they are a completely different feel from Capezios, Blochs, etc. At first, I hated them, but once you get used to them, you'll be in heaven. I encourage you to at least try, but please do message me, so I could give you advice on styles, vamps, crowns, shanks, and sizes. About the bruised toenail thing, I am wondering what pads you use or if you use any at all. Please let me know this information, as well. You also said that the bruised toenail recently happened. Have you recently changed your toe pad? It could also be that pointe is always changing your foot. One month the Arias could be the perfect shoe and another they could be totally wrong. It's possible that your foot changed and the crown is now too low. Or it could have been a problem all along, but it recently became noticeable. This could be a result of a low crown, too much padding, no padding, or too hard of a shank. Lots of info... I know. Pointe's like rocket science. Lol. But please message me at Tedroxie0222. 1. Juliet Pointe shoes are good size XX or XXX size 4 or 4.5. 2. Mirella academy pointe shoes size 4.5 X 3. Sansha "recital" Shoes size 8 Narrow have you gone in for a shoe fitting? it's likely that your arch is making the shoe worse, which will make your toes hurt. could it be maybe that you broke them in wrong? because that's what happened to me, and i had to go buy a completely different pair. the second pair fit my foot better because i have a high arch and i needed a REALLY strong shank. so remember that just because it may be expensive doesn't mean that's its the best for your foot. after all, everyone's foot is different :) message me if you need any more help? :P yayadolll

Can i let a ingrown fingernail grow out?

My mother had an ingrown toenail on her big toe and let it go for months, even though it was painful. When she finally went to have something done, they found that her toenail had grown down toward the bottom of her toe around both sides of her toenail. So, the pain she felt was awful because with every step down, since her toenail was almost poking through the underneathe bottom of her big toe, it was unbearable pain. I think you have to cut the sides to prevent this from happening. Or have a doctor do it. Infection would make it so much worse. Get it checked out.

Why do ingrown toenails hurt?

Ingrown toenails hurt because what is happening is that your toenail is penetrating the skin. when anything penetrates your skin it will hurt. The toenail will press on nerves in the toe. another reason that it hurts is that it is infected. The way to treat an infected ingrown toenail is to remove the toenail from the opening in the skin with nail trimmers then soak the toe in warm salt water. Hope this helps!!

When a toenail falls off is it painful?

well, if you pick it off by hand, it will hurt. if it somehow falls of by itself(which is VERY unlikely) i don't know it it hurts. but it will probably hurt.
